The first day of our trip largely
consisted of travelling. We met at the school at 2:45 in the morning to pick up
a taxi to Heathrow airport. For me, this was rather exciting because it was the
first time I had ever been to an airport. Once we arrived, we met up with the
other successful applicants on the trip and were able to chat and get to know
each other a little better. We also spoke to Mike (the Space Studio Banbury
Principal) who briefly tested our current space knowledge. We were also very
happy to hear that we had done much better than some of the other schools.
After checking in, we began the
long and arduous 11 hour flight to Houston. We landed at around 3 pm American
time and couldn’t help but notice how warm it was; a nice change from the rainy
Britain we had just left.
We checked into our hotel at
around 5 pm after a long coach ride to the hotel. From there we were allocated
our roommates and when to our rooms to unpack.
For dinner, we were lucky enough
to be taken to Fuddruckers where we had burgers and a drink. Not only did I get
some more time to talk to other students on the trip; but I also became better
acquainted with American Football.
By the time we returned to the
hotel, we were all very exhausted and jet-lagged and retired to our rooms for a
good night’s sleep.
